The Kenyan Ramogi Community in Canada was founded in June 2005 and incorporated in May 2007 under the Canadian laws. KRCC was started with a membership of 6 people who met for the first time at the residence of Mr. Ben Ondoro in Guelph ON. Among those who championed for the start of Ramogi Community were; Mr. Ben Ondoro, Mr. John Vorster, Dr. Perez Oyugi, Mr. Duncan Onguta, Dr. Timothy Oketch, Eng. Manasse Juma, Mr. Anthony Owala and Ms. Roseline Oyugi. The membership then grew to a closer over 30 members under the first leadership of Dr. Perez Oyugi, Organizing Secretary- John Vorster and Treasurer Mr. Dancun Onguta. By the end of 2007, the organization had grown to over 50 members majority being residents of Ontario.
An Edmonton Chapter of Ramogi was then realized in 2009 with Mr. Julius Musandu as the Chairman. The sole purpose of Ramogi Community in Canada was to ensure that by the time the group will be celebrating its Jubilee (20 years), the membership group shall include all the Canadian Provinces operating as chapters/regions.
To help newcomers to integrate and settle in Canada by providing them with necessary information and referring them to relevant resources such as, counseling, language instruction, employment training, job search programs and translation services.
To establish and operate a community center to be used for various programs such as workshops, recreational activities for example sports,drama, arts, crafts and music. To educate, sensitize and increase the public’s understanding and appreciation of the arts by providing performances of an artistic nature in public places, senior citizens homes, churches, community centers and educational institutions and by large providing seminars on topics relating to such performances. To produce performing arts festivals for the purposes of educating and advancing the public’s understanding and appreciation of performing arts and to educate artists through participation in such festivals and related workshops. To alleviate poverty in developing nations by providing food and other basic supplies to people in need. To provide aid to victims of natural disasters.
